Reviews
All Music Guide Review by Jason Ankeny:
"Calimero" is both quintessential Stereolab and a complete anomaly. With its effortlessly sophisticated melody, percolating rhythm, and cosmopolitan production, this electro-pop fantasia boasts all the critical elements of the group's retro-futurist appeal except for one: it features art-folk chanteuse Brigitte Fontaine, not Laetitia Sadier, on lead vocals. The difference is remarkable. Fontaine's breathy, dramatic turn adds a sensual new dimension to the Stereolab sound. Sadier's solo outlet Monade assumes the spotlight on the flip side, although "Cache Cache" sounds more like a traditional Stereolab tune than "Calimero." It's virtually impossible to pinpoint where the band ends and the solo project begins.
